Projection Mapping for PORTAL Festival – Gabrovo 2026

service

Segal AV presented an original projection mapping artwork at the PORTAL Digital Art Festival in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, transforming the architectural façade into a symbolic visual narrative.

The concept of the piece was built around “1984”, inspired by themes of surveillance, control, and the invisible systems that shape modern life. Rather than directly illustrating the story, the work approached these ideas through metaphor, rhythm, and architectural transformation.

The visual journey began with a luminous sphere emerging from darkness and gradually revealing the façade. As the light moved across the structure, shadows formed the number 1984 in negative space — a subtle reference to the dystopian world of observation and control.

From there, the projection evolved through symbolic scenes including a fetus connected to hidden networks, fish moving inside controlled environments, birds frozen mid-flight, and the appearance of an observing eye and web-like structures across the building. The final sequence introduced a note of hope through the image of a child releasing a glowing red balloon.

Combining architectural projection mapping, symbolic storytelling, and music, synchronized visual design, the project explored the tension between freedom and invisible systems of power.

🏆 The project received the Jury Special Award at the PORTAL Digital Art Festival.
